See the following from Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support
If you already use two-factor authentication, you can no longer turn it off. Certain features in the latest versions of iOS and macOS require this extra level of security, which is designed to protect your information. If you recently updated your account, however, you can unenroll for a period of two weeks. Just open your enrollment confirmation email and click the link to return to your previous security settings. Keep in mind, this makes your account less secure and means that you can't use features that require a higher level of security.
I find it is a pain to use the verification code. So what features would be unavailable if I did turn it off in the 2 week period I have to change my mind?? It doesn’t tell you anywhere that I can find. I have updated my iPhone as well. Thanks!
Syncing Messages with iCloud is one feature that requires it.
Thank you for your response and info. Are there any others?? Or is the messages in ICloud the only feature?
Apple Pay Cash is another feature that requires two-factor. Also required if you want to connect to Apple iCloud email from a 3rd party app (e.g., from a mail app on an Android phone).
You are welcome. Someone posted they talked to Apple Support tier 1 and tier 2 support people and there is no list which details everywhere 2 Factor Authentication is required. I'm sorry I can't be more specific.
