If you are installing on a system with a single hard drive you will need to make a bootable installer for the device.

How to create a bootable installer for macOS - Apple Support

Boot from the installer USB flash drive you created

How to select a different startup disk - Apple Support

Open Disk Utility

Disk Utility for macOS Sierra: Erase a volume using Disk Utility

If you are installing to an SSD drive you will need to format AFPS

For mechanical HDD drives format using Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

Choose GUID Partition Map

Then select Erase

Quit out of Disk Utility and run the installer
