In iOS 12, phone timer not working

Since I have updated my iPhone 8 Plus with iOS 12.0, my timer is not working correctly. I set the timer, and I can see that it starts counting down. But after looking away for a while & thinking it's odd that it hasn't gone off, I will open it to see that it has somehow been paused. At first, I thought that I had somehow paused it myself, but it has happened multiple times now.

I have forced-closed the program & restarted my phone, but as far as I can tell it isn't fixed.

Hi linneylew! In addition to force closing the clock and re-starting your phone I would try a forced re-start, which is more effective at clearing up glitches than just turning off and on again. And it won't touch your data. On your 8 Plus do as follows:

On the left side of your iPhone press and quickly release the Volume Up button, then immediately press and quickly release the Volume Down button.

Then, on the right side of your iPhone, press and keep holding the side power button (keep holding past the "Slide to shut down"!!) until the Apple Logo appears, then release the power button and let your phone re-boot.

Hope this helps you! Regards, Ian.

Hi ArbeeNYC! Here´s how to do a forced re-start on your SE:

Press and hold down the Home button as well as the power button, and hold both buttons down until the Apple logo appears, after ca. 10 seconds.

Now let go of the buttons and wait for your phone to re-boot.

Enter your passcode at start up, even if you usually use a fingerprint for ID.

This is called a force restart (or sometimes a hard reset), and often fixes small issues and glitches. If things are still not right then it might be a good idea to restore your iPhone from an old backup, as some of your files could be corrupted and might be causing the problem. Hope this helps you! Regards, Ian.

I'm happy to report that a hard reset also worked for a client of mine whose iPhone 7 was not properly notifying on the lock screen when a timer was up. The timer would count down correctly, but unless the phone was unlocked, it didn't make noise or appear when the time was up. If the phone was unlocked, the timer would appear when the time was up. This was on iOS 12 and 12.1.

Thanks Ian!
