Mirror Ipad screen to Macbook using Quicktime

Hi Everyone!

I am trying to get my Ipad to reflect/mirror its screen on my Macbook. Based on my research, it seems the best way is to use Quicktime, however when I follow the steps (open quicktime, select "new movie recording", change input to my IPad), the screen is black. When I follow the same steps to mirror my iphone screen to my macbook, it works perfectly and reflects my Iphone screen. I'm guessing there is some issue with my Ipad that causes the Ipad NOT TO MIRROR, while my Iphone does mirror, since everything is the same on the Macbook end. Any suggestions? Thank you all very much in advance for any help!

Macbook is: OS 10.11.6, 2012 Macbook Pro

Ipad is using IOS 11.4

iPad (6th gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 11.4
