Could I effectively use the I watch as a child tracking device if I bought one for my 10yr old? Ie does it have tracking functionality?

i have been looking at child tracking devices for my 10yr old who is travelling to school on her own for the first time but the devices all seem baby-ish. So I was wondering whether an I watch could be used in the same way As a child tracker? Many thanks.

I’d say Apple Watch is not the best option.

First and foremost, the Watch requires an iPhone to function. I don’t think it’s a good smartphone choice for a 10-year-old kid.

Second, battery life is not perfect. If you’re going to regularly check the Watch’s location, you’d get about ten hours of battery life, maybe even less.

Finally, Apple Watch is simply not designed as a child tracker. It’s not a simple device that just does the job, but a notable accessory that can draw attention of bad people.

While you may be able to use it to track them, the watch will not be trackable unless its connected it Wifi or cellular data and of course the fact that being tied to an iPhone it will receive all messages, calls, and contacts from the paired iPhone as it is not a standalone device.

So unless you want you 10 year old answering calls form or placing calls to your friends or business contacts, no the Apple watch is not a good child tracker.
