"Message Failed to Send" notification on iPhone

Hello All,

When my iPhone is powered on after a long period of being off (usually overnight), I receive a pop-up alert to say "Your message to 'name of contact' failed to send", followed by an amount of days. The amount of days is currently 1009!

The contact is still a valid contact of mine. I have no idea how to stop the pop up/alert sound, or where the offending message may be located.

It doesn't seem to show after a brief period of being off... only usually overnight, but without fail, every morning, there it is with the day value increased by one.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks!

iPhone 5s, iOS 12

A few options you could try, do a Forced Restart and then see what happens the following day. If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

You could also see if the failed message is still present in Messages, scroll back the 1000 or so days, if so try and delete, then again see what happens the next day.

Last, try turning off (toggle the iMessage button at top) or signing out of Messages (Settings/Messages/Send & Receive and tap your ID, tap “Sign Out”. Wait a few minutes then Sign back in, again see what the next day brings (not sure about this as a fix because can’t see what it would change, but might be worth a try if the above fail).
