Kensington Mouse Stops Working After Sleep With High Sierra

I have a late 2012 iMac running OS 10.13.6. Use a Kensington Orbit Trackball with scroll. With OS High Sierra trackball stops responding after compter. goes to sleep. The only way to bring it back is to unplug from USB and replug. Running Kensington Mouseworks 1.4. Have found other forum entries on this but no solutions yet. Any ideas besides buying 3rd party mouse software?

Yesterday I unplugged the trackball, uninstalled the Kensington Mouseworks software, restarted the iMac then plugged the trackball back in. The Mac recognized it as an interface device and it worked fine but with the 2 buttons reversed (right-handed mode). However, when the computer went to sleep then woke, the trackball no longer worked. When I unplugged the trackball and replugged it, it worked fine. Seems more like a Mac OS issue to me.
