The printer is more than 3 year old but it hasn't been used when I plug it in my air mac doesn't recognice so I have to install the drive but I don't have a CD

You should just have to plug it in and it will ask if you want to download the drivers.
Newer printers generally do not require drivers, but if it is more than a couple of years old, it will likely need one and macOS should recognize it and ask you to install the appropriate driver.
