You can install Word but that is not the only way. Apple's Pages WP app does not seem to like Word files that old.


Tested and found workable: Download the free office Suite LibreOffice. With its WP component, select "Open.." from the file menu. Navigate to the file you wish to open and select it. I just tested it on a Word file last saved in 2000 and it opened fine. NOTE: simply double-clicking the word file's icon make not work.
