Why won’t my aux cable work in my car?

I’m using an IPhone 7 and recently got a car. The first thing I tested was the aux but it didn’t work. Other people have gotten it to work with other devices that are not apple. I have tried different jacks and used various adapters. I have the latest apple update and I’m so confused why it wont work. Please help.
