Moving time machine backup file

I need to move my time machine backup file from one external drive to another. What are the steps to do that and clean up to old file. Thanks

After you copy a file and delete it, it ends up in trash. I don’t have room in trash for that to happen. So once I have copied the file how do I disconnect the old file and connect the new file to time mac
