Sorry, but you will need a Late 2012 or later iMac to run macOS Mojave.

Thanks!.. At least knowing that there is a technical reason does make me feel a little better about this.
One of the reasons that I buy apple products is for the longevity.
I know that this is a bit of a ridiculous question: but how long do you think I have before applications stop working on my High Sierra 10.13.6? (which will possibly continue to get updates for a while)
Just a ball park..?
Thanks Again!
The only updates to High Sierra will be security updates for a while. Apps that work now will continue to work. 32 bit apps will work thru Mojave but not afterward. The system that comes after Mojave will be only 64 bit compatible.
Good grief! That is rediculous!
Is there a technical reason why this is so or is this purely a rip off?
Yes there is a technical reason. Mojave requires a GPU that supports Metal and they weren't available until 2012.
Any applications that run now will continue to run while your Mac is working. So it should be a number of years.
