Camera turns off during FaceTime

For the past week or so whilst using FaceTime - the camera suddenly turns off.

camera icon with a slash through appears on a black screen with the words.'No camera available, To use FaceTime, connect a camera'

The green camera light is also off.

If I re-boot my computer it will come back on, but then turns off again mid-call.

I've seen a few things the web that people are suggesting to remedy.. but don't know which info to trust.

Thanks to macjack

From your Finder “Go” menu>”Go to folder” and enter

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.FaceTime.plist

Press Go

delete the plist file

you may also need to delete the other FaceTime plist files in your Preferences folder

It seems to be working okay now

Thanks for taking the time to help.
