Need help determining if used 87W USB-C power adapter is genuine
Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro 15'' 2018 model and recently bought a second, used
87W power adapter. It seems to function fine and feels like the real thing.
One difference is that the text printing on the adapter is of a lighter grey color
than the one that came with my Macbook (the text and logos themselves are identical).
I think that could be explained away by the used adapter being older.
However, what makes me scratch my head is the output of system profiler on the used adapter:
AC Charger Information:
Connected: Yes
ID: 0x1656
Wattage (W): 86
Serial Number: nil
Name: 85W USB-C Power Adapter
Manufacturer: Apple Inc.
Hardware Version: 1,0
Firmware Version: 1070057
Charging: Yes
The "Name" field reads "85W USB-C Power Adapter", but so such thing exists. For comparison,
this is the output for the adapter that came with the Macbook:
AC Charger Information:
Connected: Yes
ID: 0x1656
Wattage (W): 86
Serial Number: C0XXXXXXXXXXW85BB
Name: 87W USB-C Power Adapter
Manufacturer: Apple Inc.
Hardware Version: 1,0
Firmware Version: 1070069
Charging: Yes
I properly identifies as "87W USB-C Power Adapter" and reports a serial number (note: I censored the serial number above). That either means 1) the used power adapter is fake or 2) older versions incorrectly identify themselves.
Now I would like to know the system profiler output from other people having a 87W USB-C power adapter,
preferably from older versions, e.g, the 2016-2017 Macbook line.
Thanks for any help
Oliver
