localhost :/ root# message?? help please

my ibook just freaked out and when i boot it up the wheel spins and then it goes to a dark page and in the upper left corner it says localhost :/ root# has anyone had this happen? thanks for your help! ....eric

The most likely cause for this is that Mac OSX has detected a problem with your filesystem and has started up in "single-user" mode, which will allow you to repair the filesystem by typing

fsck

after the # and then hitting the Enter key.

It will then try to fix the filesystem problems. This could take 20 minutes or longer, so be patient.

thank you,, it now says volume is journaled no checking performed

In that case type

reboot

and press Enter key
