Microphone in clamshell mode

2018 Macbook Pro microphone will not work in clamshell mode. Is there anyway to remedy this or is an external mic needed?

Mic in my MBP on El Capitan does not work I am running a Mac Mini (early 2009) on El Capitan. In trying to connect to Zoom I found that the Mic does not work. I opened Preferences, Sound and Input and verified that the mic is not working. I also went to Preferences, opened Security & Privacy, and found that the mic is not shown in the left pane. Will apprecite your insights to solve this problem
