Restore from time machine backup fails with error 112

I had a hard drive crash with a macbook Pro. Apple managed to fix what was a hard drive issue but had to erase the drive. I thought I was safe because I had a Time Machine backup on my network drive. I manage to boot the mac in internet recovery mode but when I try to restore from the time machine backup, I get an error message that says

“the backup cannot be opened. An unexpected error occurred trying to open the backup. (Error 112)”. I do not get this error if I start a restore from my wife or one of my children‘s backup (for these I get a list of dates that I could restore but for my own backup, the process stops after a few minutes, without showing the backup version available with this sole error message. so i suspect my own backup is damaged.

could anyone offer me any troubleshooting ideas? This is a catastrophy for me because I have years of my life on this backup.

Thank you for offering to help Starr.C,

unfortunately these seem to be options for fixing or verifying a set of backups when one’s objective is to have a good backup, when one still has a drive. I should clearly have done that but I did not.

Now my problem is the result that I have no more date since my drive is erased and I want to restore from a time machine backup and I get the message that my backups cannot be opened. I do not even need the last one since I used to back up more or less daily, but as long as one of the many backups in there can be restored I would be much much more happy.

Do you or anyone have any idea how to fix my set of Timemachine backups?
