I have a new MacBook pro running windows in boot camp, with an external monitor. The displays are mirrored, and I can see no way to change this. I would like them to be separate, not mirrored. Windows display settings do not detect multiple monitors, so I can't make the change. Anyone have a suggestion?

Are you using any adapters or a USBc-to-HDMI cable? If you disconnect the external monitor when booting into Windows, does the built-in Retina screen work?

the external monitor is connected through a thunderbolt 3 port to the HDMI on the monitor. The external monitor is detected by the windows display settings, but the retina screen on the laptop is not, so it thinks that there is only one monitor, and mirrors them.
When I boot into Mac OS, it sees both and I can set them up separately. It is windows running in boot camp that only sees the external monitor.

I am using an adapter that I bought at Apple to go from USBc to an HDMI cable. The retina screen works both with or without the external monitor connected, but when the external monitor is connected, the retina screen will only mirror the external monitor. I can't get it to not mirror.
Is this - USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter - Apple - the adapter you have?
