Mac LCII and iMac A1195 connection

I own a Mac LCII (MacOS 7.5, 68030 micom, 10MB RAM and 80MB HD) and an iMac A1195 (MacOS X 10.6.8, Intel Core Duo, 4MB RAM and 80GB HD) and I'm trying to share files between them because the LCII has only a 1.44MB floppy drive and therefore I cannot copy files or apps bigger than 1.44MB

The iMac is connected to the home network through Wifi and I'm trying to connect the LCII to the home router but unsuccesfully. The LCII has a Farallon Ethernet PDS card+drivers and Open Transport 1.3 installed but the router doesn't detects the machine even if I set the IP manually.

My other option was to connect the two computers using a crossed ethernet cable but one more time there's no way. The ethernet cables are tested and the back light of the ethernet card on the LCII is turned on. I have read that is not possible to connect a MacOS 7.5 and a MacOS X 10.6.8 using Appleshare because the protocols are different. Is this true? There's another way?

How can I communicate both machines? (through the router or machine-to-machine, it doesn't matter)

Thank you

OBS iMac (17-inch Mid 2006), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

To begin with, have a look at the following chart: http://www.applefool.com/se30/#afpnetwork . You will notice that a "conventional" file sharing is not possible between your operating systems. However, there are other possibilities.

For example, you could install a small FTP server, such as the now free NetPresenz (https://archive.info-mac.org/_Internet/), on the LC II. Use this method locally, with a router (connect the computers to LAN ports). You may have to change a few settings and/or restart the computers in order to communicate properly via Ethernet. A dedicated FTP client on the iMac should then be able to both download and upload files.

Thanks for you advise. What I have done is forget about the machine-to-machine file sharing and try using FTP instead. After reinstall 7.5 and Open Transport I disabled AppleTalk and File Sharing on the Mac and the connection to the router was possible, even using DHCP to automatically assign the IP to the Mac.

Next step will be to install Fetch on the Mac and any other file server on the iMac or PC connected to the home network and see if finally I can get files from the Mac through FTP.

Many thanks again.

You're welcome! Glad to hear that the connection as such is OK now. Yes, an FTP client on the LC II would of course be fine, with server software on a modern Mac or a PC. For security reasons, it is often a good idea to use plain FTP for a local connection only. A separate machine (such as an old PC running Linux) as the FTP server could be an alternative. Good luck with the continued tests!
