How to force a scan for People?

I just changed over my large family library to Photos.

As part of this I get the notice that I have 30000 photos, and XXX have already been scanned, Photos will scan for people "when you are not using the App"

Since I use an external that is not connected all the time I want to get this over with.

Does anyone know the exact procedure to use to get Photos to do this scan?

MacBook Air, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6), External Photos Drive

There is no documentation by Apple how to make Photos scan for faces - at least I could not find any. The "when you are not using the App" is all I have ever seen as a hint.

For me it worked best, when I minimized Photos in the Dock to close the application window, and then to let Photo run over night, with the energy saver disabled. The Mac must not put the disks to sleep.
