How can I prevent my various neighbors' wifi network names from showing up on my iMac ? I don't see a prevent button or something similar. I also have this issue with my iPad and iPhone 5.

Well you can't stop it. If it exists and is broadcasting, it will show up. Just ignore it.
You can't short of turning off WiFi.
As has been mentioned a few times, you can't disable the list. Sorry.
Nothing you can do about it, except click Shared so you don't see other peoples devices.
One thing you might consider, is are you broadcasting your WiFi network name to the neighbors?
And would you prefer to not broadcast it...

It doesn't mean anything if you can see their LANs or vice versa. Unless they grant you access to their network you cannot access it and vice versa.

where do I find "shared"?
In the Finder sidebar, you should see the word just above where you can see your neighbors Lans shown.
Under "shared" all I see are my iMac and printer listed. Maybe I'm spending too much time on this topic ?
