iPod Wiped Now Won't Synch

My iPod Classic wiped itself and now cannot be recognized by iTunes. Checked cables and other published advice. My other iPod loads into iTunes with no issue. When I plug in the iPod Classic, it shows up on my desktop as an "untitled" folder. It appears that the computer just doesn't recognize what type of device it is. I've rebooted iPod (multiple time) and checked for new versions of iTunes on the Mac. The iPod comes up at the "choose language" screen. Any ideas other than checking cables and security software? Based on the fact that my other iPod is recognized without issue, it doesn't seem the problem is with cables or security settings.
