2013 MBP ram upgrade possibilities?? y/n

I"m buying a Late 2013 Macbook pro and want to upgrade from 8gb to 16gb but some sites say only upgradable upon purchase. Can i not upgrade this?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

That is correct---the RAM they ship with is their "forever" RAM. Retina MBPs always had RAM integral with the logic board. If you need 16GB in a used machine, you'll have to find one that shipped that way when new.


If you are in the US you could consider the Apple refurb shop:

Refurbished MacBook Pro - Apple Certified MacBook Pro Notebook Computers - Apple

Items there can change hourly so check often. You can save quite a bit and still start with a fully inspected computer with full warranty coverage. All our working Macs were bought as refurbs and served well
