Unable to achieve 4K @ 60Hz

Hello,

I have been unable to achieve 4K @ 60Hz. The options are greyed out at "30 Hertz (NTSC)". I have the following hardware:

I have been searching the internet for hours looking for answers and I can't seem to figure out what's wrong. I even read a few Amazon reviews on the cable I'm using and people seem to have 4K @ 60Hz on this same monitor.

Under System Preferences > Display, this is what I get:

What's the problem here? Is it the monitor or the cable I'm using? 30Hz is very choppy and quite frankly unusable for design work.

Hello RayfayS,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand from your post that you have not been able to get a 60 Hertz Refresh Rate. The following article has information on how to gain a 60 Hertz Refresh Rate that you may find helpful:

Using 4K displays, 5K displays, and Ultra HD TVs with your Mac - Apple Support

The MacBook (2015 and later), MacBook Pro (2016 and later), iMac (2017 and later), and iMac Pro (2017) support these resolutions and refresh rates over HDMI 1.4b when using the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter with macOS Sierra 10.12 or later:

  • Up to 1080p at 60Hz
  • 3840 x 2160 at 30Hz
These computers also support 60Hz refresh rate over HDMI when used with a supported HDMI 2.0 display, HDMI Premium Certified cable, and a compatible third-party USB-C to HDMI 2.0 adapter.
Best Regards.
