Cloud symbol on apps

Phone 6 S plus.....Some icons on the desktop/home have a “cloud” symbol.

Your rep says that after apps have been opened once, they are stored on the Cloud; the symbol indicates this. In subsequent openings of the apps, they are ”downloaded” from the Cloud.

***But I have not connected or enabled the Cloud. Is there a default connection to Cloud? Are these (many) apps being stored on the Cloud? (I have NEVER connected/enabled the cloud.)

Please help me to understand this.

Not our 'rep', we are fellow users, these are user forums.

You don't have to be logged into iCloud for App Offloading to be used, that depends upon whether you have Settings > iTunes & App Store > Offload Unused Apps set 'on'. It's basically a way of saving storage space on the device.

All purchases are automatically available in the cloud for redownloading, as long as they remain in the store and you don't move countries (not sure whether music, films etc. can be redownloaded in all countries yet).
