I just placed a support call with Apple. The guy said there is no workaround/troubleshooting for this problem. He said that as it is cleared via a reboot, it is a software issue that is a known problem and will be fixed in a future update.

Cold comfort, but at least its on their agenda. Not what you expect for a high-end device from a premium brand.

I am having the same issue with my iPhone XS Max. Top external speaker (ear piece) doesn’t work. Only the bottom one does.

Apple said they have never heard of this issue before with iPhone XS Max. It’s ridiculous.
