why does my iPhone not recognize when I plug in my aux cord?

I have an iphone 8 and an aux cord that would use a traditional headphone jack to connect to the phone. So I bought a dongle so that I can plug it into the charger port and then to the aux cord, but my iphone doesn't play music through whatever I plug the aux cord into, it keeps playing from the speakers on my phone.

butter366,

Check the charging port for lint or other debris. Also see these steps:

1) Open the Control Center

2) 3D press on the music controls

3) Select the output option (little up-arrow with circles)

4) Select headphones

If your headphones don‘t work with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Good luck.
