How to compress .mov files?
I have an 8G .mov file I want to put on a 32G SanDisk USB. Apparently it will not accept files large than 4G. What to do?

Thanks, Rich. I Figured that reformatting would work but I had a lot of other files on the USB key so I exported the file from Quicktime reducing the quality. Not perfect but efficient.
Glad that you found a satisfactory solution.

Hi,
Disks formatted FAT 32 have a 4GB file size limitation. To get unlimited file size the disk should be reformatted ExFat or Mac OS Extended (Journaled). That can be done with the Disk Utility app on your Mac. Reformatting erases all data on the drive, so be sure first to back up all data that you want to keep. Alternatively you can buy a new drive formatted, or that can be reformatted, per the above.

Adding to my previous post, you can try sharing out the movie as Mp4/AAC with the faster and more compressed settings in the share optios box. Possibly that will compress it under 4GB. There will be some loss of quality. Or, you can split the file in half and store each half as a separate file.
