Mojave has lost my Internet connection

Ok so I have an Late 2014 iMac that runs pretty well.

I installed Mojave and it seemed nice and shiny and looked great. Then after about a week it got real slow, including very slow internet and now it just won't connect at all. Not through Wifi or Ethernet even though in Network in System Prefs it says it is connected.

Now even in safe mode it won't connect but when I boot from my External Drive with High Sierra on it everything works fine.

any ideas on what I can do?

Thanks all in advance,

Dave

It won't even start up now - I restarted, used Clean my Mac X and unisntalled all bits and pieces that I don't need, then restarted as it was so slow and it won't start.

It starts, and gets to the end of the bar and then the screen goes blank.

If I start from my external drive it's fine and I can see my drive but things are getting worse and worse.
