maybe in message line for contacts

in messages I am getting maybe (contact name).

How do I get rid of it and make sure all contacts are synced between devices

iPad, iOS 5.1.1

I'm seeing this also, but only with two numbers that I don't have in my contact list. I haven't tried to track it down, but it may be that their contact info is in an e-mail I received from them, so the OS associates the two and that is why it says that it Maybe person XYZ.


As an experiment, I'm going to add them both to my contact list and see if the "Maybe" designation disappears. I'll report back if that appears to be the answer.

That seems to be the answer, try and see if you agree. After adding the two people to my contacts, the "maybe"

disappeared.


Sounds like when we get a call or text, the OS first searches our contacts. If the number isn't found there, it searches e-mails. If the number has ever appeared in an e-mail, we get a "maybe" XYZ is calling or texting. Neat little feature when you think about it.
