Can I use my Mac as my home hub?
Can I use my Mac as my home hub for home kit much like you would with an ipad or apple tv without having a Home Pod?
iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

No, the options are given here: Set up your HomePod, Apple TV, or iPad as a home hub - Apple Support.

For what it is worth (futile?) I have sent feedback to Apple suggesting they create a Home/Homekit community. As you have found, advice on this topic is split between several communities. If you agree pls also send feedback.

Yeah, that is what I figured...
It would make too much sense if you could do it that way and not have to purchase additional hardware, bummer in my opinion...
Thanks!
You're welcome. 🙂

I now have Mojave running on a Mac. Although it has a Home app that allows me to control devices from the Mac the Home User Guide states "You can't set up remote access from the Home app on your Mac". The article effectively says you must have an Apple TV, Homepod or iPad to create a Home Hub.
A pity that the iPad is more powerful than a Mac!
