Hi joma139,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I see that you're having some trouble with a number related to your iCloud account. I know it's important to be able to access and use iCloud on your devices; I'd like to help. It sounds like you may be referring to the code you used for iCloud Keychain. If so, I'd recommend that you use these steps to either create a new iCloud Security Code, or reset your iCloud Keychain:

If you can access an approved device that uses your iCloud Keychain

You can create a new iCloud Security Code from another device that also uses your iCloud Keychain.

On an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

  1. Tap Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Keychain > Advanced. If you're using iOS 10.2 or earlier, tap Settings > iCloud.
  2. Tap Change Security Code.
    User uploaded file
  3. Enter your Apple ID password when asked.
  4. Enter a new iCloud Security Code.
    User uploaded file

On a Mac with OS X Yosemite or later:

  1. Choose Apple User uploaded file menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
  2. Click Options next to Keychain.
  3. Click Change Security Code and enter a new iCloud Security Code.
    User uploaded file

On the device where iCloud Keychain was disabled, create a new iCloud Keychain that contains the username, passwords, and other keychain items from the device:

  • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Tap Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Keychain and turn on iCloud Keychain. If you're using iOS 10.2 or earlier, tap Settings > iCloud.
  • On your Mac: Choose Apple User uploaded file menu > System Preferences. Click iCloud, then select Keychain.

An approval notification appears on the device that you used to create the new iCloud Security Code. Approve to add the new iCloud Keychain to your device.

If you can't access a device that uses your iCloud Keychain

Follow these steps to reset your iCloud Keychain.

On an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

  1. Tap Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Keychain and turn on iCloud Keychain. If you're using iOS 10.2 or earlier, tap Settings > iCloud. You might be asked to enter your Apple ID password.
  2. If you protect your account with two-factor authentication, tap Restore with Security Code. If you don't use two-factor authentication, tap Approve with Security Code.
  3. Tap Forgot Code.
    User uploaded file
  4. Tap Reset iCloud Keychain to replace your keychain in iCloud with the iCloud Keychain from your device.
  5. Tap Reset to confirm.
  6. Follow the onscreen steps to create a new iCloud Security Code.

On a Mac with OS X Yosemite or later:

  1. Choose Apple User uploaded file menu > System Preferences.
  2. Click iCloud, then select Keychain. You might be asked to enter your Apple ID password.
  3. Click Use Code, then choose Forgot Code when you're asked to enter your iCloud Security Code.
  4. Click Reset Keychain to replace your keychain in iCloud with the iCloud Keychain from your device.
    User uploaded file
  5. Click Reset iCloud Keychain to confirm.
  6. Follow the onscreen steps to create a new iCloud Security Code.
If you enter your iCloud Security Code incorrectly too many times

If this isn't the number that you're referring to not remembering, can you let me know what you're trying to access with iCloud that requires a number?

Can you tell me where you're being prompted to enter this number?

Best Regards.

Hi joma139,

Thank you for clarifying what you're having trouble with. I'd suggest using the resources below to recover your Apple ID and password:

If you forgot your Apple ID

If you forgot your Apple ID password

If you're unable to recover either item by using these resources, reach out to Apple for further assistance: Contact Apple for help with Apple ID account security
