gps on iPad

does gps work on an iPad without having the option for cell service ?

iPad Air Wi-Fi, iOS 12.0.1

Wifi-only iPads don't have a GPS chip, only cellular models do - if you have a cellular model you don't have to activate a service with a carrier.
