Video capture from HDV deck to iMac

Hello all.

I recently got a Sony gv-hd700 deck to capture footage from my old dv tapes to my iMac.

Having a lot of trouble doing so. I’m using Premiere Pro to no avail. Adobe support said I needed Premeiere elements since it’s going to my Mac via usb. I purchased elements and it still doesn’t work. I’m using a FireWire to usb cable. Do I need a FireWire to thunderbolt instead? My iMac only has usb and thunderbolt.

The HDV deck has a FireWire output. Also HDV/iLink.

Could it be I need a certain driver or video card?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

ILink and FireWire on your deck are the same, just differing names.

FireWire will do the job with the necessary adapters to marry up to your specific Macs' thunderbolt connections.

No special drivers are required.

USB is a no go for video capture with your setup.

You also may have to choose the output settings on the deck. I think Auto on your model will work with either DV or HDV. Just check the menu options in case a manual output is already selected.

You also need contiguous Time Code on the tapes for ease of capture.
