white screen lockup when setting password, lost most of button functionality

I purchased a new iphone Xs on Monday, after setting up from backup, I could not set passwords to email accounts.

when asked to set password for google mail, I went to settings to set password, when I choose appropriate the screen went white. it lost most functionality and could not power off. The phone was replaced yesterday with a new one?

how do I avoid this?

Hey graeme,

Thanks for reaching out with this concern of your iPhone freezing and losing functionality when trying to set a password in the Settings. I'd like to help out.

If the reason the iPhone XS was replaced was because of a similar issue, the issue may be within the actual backup. If that's the cause you'll want to restore the iPhone as new device rather than from a backup.

Does the issue occur again when attempting to set a password using the Settings app? Even after restarting the device? Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch You may also know, but if you do run into the issue again and the iPhone loses functionality, you can use these steps to force restart the iPhone XS:

On an iPhone 8 or later: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the recovery-mode screen.

hi alex_h1

Thanks for you explanation. I haven't used it much since lost all my confidence in the New Phone Xs.

You have give me some advice worth a try, thanks.

However, I do wonder if the side button would work in the event that the same happened again (white screen of death) as the side button didn't respond in the last time.

thank you all the best.

Graeme
