MBP not going into sleep mode when closing the lid after updating to Mojave OS 10.14

Just as the title says - after updating to Mojave, when I put the lid down to put my MacBook Pro to put it to sleep, it doesn't actually go to sleep, and the laptop gets very warm (temp reads at about 50 degrees celsius whenever I've opened it back up to continue working). If I leave the screen up, it goes to sleep no problem, and the temperature cools down like normal.

My MBP is a mid-2012 2.7GHz intel i7 core.

I have this same issue. I've tried resetting the SMC as well as PRAM - of which neither worked. This only happened after upgrading to Mojave - so I'm wondering if this is something that I need to go for service. Are there other things to try before spending a day at the Apple Store?
