Recommended graphics card to install in a mid-2010 Mac Pro (tower) to allow upgrade from Mac OS High Sierra version 10.13.6 to Mac OS Mojave (currently have ATI Radeon HD 5870, which - apparently is not Metal compatible).

When you install an aftermarket graphics card, it is generally NOT able to show boot screens. The first screen you see will be the login scree (or the desktop if you auto-login). This can make alternate booting from Windows and certain other debugging situations more complex.


To guarantee that Boot screens will be shown, choose a "Mac-edition" graphics acrd from the approved list. Some flashed cards can also work this way, but be sure to ASK the vendor/flasher so that there are no surprises.
