Foot pod connection for Apple Watch Series 4

Being able to connect with a Foot pod would make a huge difference on the treadmill. I did my first treadmill run today with an Apple Watch. It was great for the first 6/10 of a mile, and then all of the sudden, it started WAY over-estimating. When the treadmill said 1.0 Miles (and the clock suggested I'd be around 1 mile given my pace), it was up to 1.82. A foot pod would completely change the game.

I have like 4 Nike+ foot pods and 2 Garmin foot pods. It would be great if I could connect to these, but don't know if either would work or, more importantly, how to connect to them.

Any thoughts?

I have the same question too. But I do know this:

the Apple Watch isn't able to connect to foot pods that use the Ant+ protocol. Most, if not all, Garmin foot pods use the Ant+ protocol. There are foot pods that connect via Bluetooth such as some made by Polar and Stryd. I don't know if the Nike+ foot pod is Ant+ or Bluetooth, but I suspect the former.

I am also searching for a foot pod for my Watch. I am moving from a Garmin ecosystem in which the heart rate monitor (HRM-Run Monitor) also provided additional data including: cadence, vertical oscillation, ground contact time, ground contact time balance, stride length, vertical ratio (https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/530376 ).

I don't think I can replicate all of these metrics on the Apple Watch with additional accessories, but perhaps some. I hear the Stryd foot pod does some of that and it's expensive: $200!

Anyhow, if anyone has used bluetooth foot pod with the Watch, please post experiences and recommendations here!

It seems like Stryd is the only option and I don’t feel like I’d be where I want to be even with it given the limitations in training plans. I decided to go back to Garmin. I really liked the Apple Watch in general, but training is too big a deal to me, so this made sense. I also found that I have far more situations where I need to casually see the time without raising my arm or turning the crown to do so, so Apple Watch just isn’t for me. (Bummer to say that!)
