unable to see lock icon in permissions, or the pane listing users

Hi, using MacBook as administrator, but unable to access read only file or even see permissions pane for it - please help?

MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)

Have you looked t both places in the Get info on it or the folder it is in?

Did you click on the disclosure triangle next to the Sharing and Permissions? If it is pointing to the right, then click on it to show the users (see Comments section in BDAqua's screen shot).


Additionally, being an 'Admin' user doesn't necessarily give you any special ability unless you authenticate to elevate your privileges; so, even if you are admin, you may not be able to see things or do things until you request to elevate your privileges. And even then, System Integrity Protection may prevent certain things from any user, including root.


Given all that, I haven't ever seen permissions not show. But, there could possibly be some case I haven't thought of.
