iOS iMessage force sync

My iPhone X randomly deleted HUGE iMessage conversations dating back to the beginning of time. These were close friends and family, and while not critical, I'd like to have them back.

These conversations EXIST on my iPad mini 2!

How can I force iMessage on my phone to sync with the full conversations that exist on my iPad?

iPhone X, iOS 12.0.1, And iPad mini 2 up to date

Hello thomasomiller,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand from your post that some of your messages have disappeared from your iPhone X. These same messages are on your iPad and you would like to know if you can get them back on your iPhone. Using messages in iCloud you can keep your message history updated and available on all your devices. Using the steps from the article below, I recommend enabling messages in iCloud on your iPad first, then enabling it on your iPhone.

Keep all your messages in iCloud - Apple Support

Best Regards.
