The iPhone will only join networks that you have joined in the past. It will not automatically join unknown networks. If you wish to see networks to join, you need to turn on Ask to Join Networks.
I know, but my phone stopped signing on automatically and won’t acknowledge my password...
Connect to the network you want to reconnect automatically. Open Settings/Wi-Fi and tap on the i next to the network name and turn on auto-join.
