Help! I have a new Macbook Pro 15" 2018 Touchbar. september , it had been making loud fan noises even when I'm basically not doing anything (only opening my email account, writing in Pages, with no other applications open). I have read about how laptops may make loud fan noises when they are busy, and we need to reset SMC or something. I tried doing that, but really, the laptop was not busy in the first place. A few days ago there was a new upgrade. wonder it has something to do with this.

MacBook Pro TouchBar and Touch ID, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)

Assuming you have upgraded, it's quite common for the fans to come on after the installation at random times until the computer completes the upgrade process, which actually takes several days to a week. The upgrade process involves much more than the installation including re-indexing all files. If it continues to do this resetting the NVRAM/PRAM and/or the SMC may be an option but at this time I wouldn't worry about it. I would reboot though to make sure the memory is clear.
