Backup via iTunes or iCloud?

When I backup/restore my iPhone, do I have to use iTunes (on a computer)? Or can I use iCloud from the phone? I tried to use iCloud but I didn’t get any sort of confirmation message...

You can backup to the cloud : How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

And restore from it : Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

If backing up to the cloud the screen will tell you when the last backup was done.

Thank you, should I be recieving some sort of confirmation message that my phone is now unlocked? I tried the backup/restore method via iCloud after AT&T approved my unlock request and according to the Verizon website, my phone is still not compatible. What should I do?

Backing up and restoring has nothing to do with unlocking a phone from a carrier. Contact AT&T again (assuming that the phone is compatible with Verizon).
