How to download Netflix to ipad 3?

I'll start by saying that I have never tried this myself but according to this article (netflix.com), you must have downloaded it when it was compatible with your iOS version.

If your iOS is between 5.0 and 10.3.3 and you have downloaded the Netflix app in the past, see Apple's support site for instructions on downloading an earlier version of Netflix. If your iOS is 11.0 or above, continue troubleshooting below.

I don't think there is a workaround if you have never installed Netflix when it was compatible.

You might want to save my own link above for future reference about initially obtaining older apps for older iPads.

In regards to Netflix, their older working apps are still available all the way back to iOS 5.1.1.

The iTunes, if you have a computer, just takes a little time to setup, but yields a positive result in getting your iPad 3 an older, compatible version of Netflix.
