Tried to add one of the new “circular” colour watch faces and all it keeps adding the “dial” instead. Both phone and watch updated. Any ideas?

Did you add all three color face types (Full, Circular, and Dial) from the watch gallery to "My Faces"? You should be able to select any of the three from "My Faces".
I can only address the Watch 4, so don't know any limitations for Watch 3. I suppose you selected the circular face in "My Watch" and then scrolled to the bottom of the window and selected "Set as current Face".
Was that part of the WatchOS 5.1, because I read an earlier article that Apple had pulled that update because of some "issues". Have not checked my iPhone to see if it was posted again as an update. Perhaps that is the issue?

And yes I added them. But the circular one came up on my watch as a dial!
My watch is a series three - wonder if that makes a difference.
Hi. I think it was part of 12.1 for the iPhone. I had earlier updated my phone to 5.1 without any problems. From what I have read it was mainly some series 4 that got hit bad.

I’m having the exact same problem. Select full colour face but only dial shows.
