I just bought a new iPhone 8. I’m having trouble with getting my thumb print to unlock the phone. I end up trying repeatedly then just resorting to the code # to open it. It’s very annoying and time consuming to me. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure your thumb/ finger has no geese on
Go to settings down to Touch I'd delete finger prints Then add back again.

Put the finger print in three times. I have the same problem, so I save three of the same fingerprints. that stopped the issue for me.
also make sure your finger is clean and dry and the button When you use the fingerprint. Food or water, etc. Can interfere.
Did you up to iOS 12.1?
the update doesn’t disab it.
please make a few new fingerprints as I suggested. Then res your device and try again.
What if touch id is disabled after system update for ios 12.0.1
