converting pages doc to word on a PC

I am a Windows user. I know nothing about Apple kit. Someone has emailed me a .pages document which i cannot open. Renaming it to .zip did not help because there is no .pdf document inside it. I did some searching and found I need to create an Apple ID account and somehow upload the pages document to icloud ...

(see https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac-software/how-edit-pages-files-on-windows-3 656014/)

So I created the account but I cannot see how to upload the document. Going direct to

Sign in to iCloud - Apple

produces a message "icloud encountered an error when trying to connect to the server."

I'm stuck.

null-OTHER, Windows

Try to access icloud.com again. The error indicates an issue with the server or your connection to it. What browser are you using? If possible try with a recent version of Chrome or Firefox, or even the default Edge browser in Windows 10. Internet Explorer 11 is no longer supported.

Once you manage to log in to icloud.com, there will be a Pages App there you an use to upload the file to, and then export it as Word document.

Thanks for your reply. Re-trying always gets the same result. TBH if the icloud server isn't accessible to standard browsers then probably it isn't going to work for me at all with my ageing kit. Installing new browsers and updating and configuring them until I find the specific version that'll work with the site is probably at the boundary of my technical ability.
