Is this a fair trade?

My friend wants to trade his MacBook Pro 1.83 GHZ Core Duo with 512 MBs of RAM and a 120 GB hard drive for my MacBook 2.0 GHZ Core Duo with 512 MBs of RAM and 80 GB Hard drive. He says I also need to add 150 dollars on top of that. Does that seem fair? How much is my MacBook on the market? It has only one scratch on the bottom, but besides that, its perfect.

Black MacBook 2.0GHZ I 512 MB RAM I 80 GB HD, Mac OS X (10.4.7), Also have an iMac G3 TrayLoader 333 MHZ

I love my macbook, its so small and sleek. Personally i wouldn't trade, but it depends what you do on your macbook. If you need a hardcore video editing machine, then go ahead and switch. But if you feel like your macbook does what you need, then maybe upgrade to 2 gigs of Ram, and you'll really see a performance boost. Even if you are going to be doing hardcore video editing on the macbook pro, your still going to have to upgrade to 2 gigs of Ram.

According to EveryMac.com a user MacBook of like configuration is worth $950-1,050. A similar MacBook Pro with 80 GB drive is worth $1,250-1,400. You can also check eBay's "completed transactions" info on them to get an idea of price range for used models. Based on EveryMac.com it would seem they offered deal is a good one assuming both are in similar condition.

well, I've heard there are tons of problems with the MB pro. I love my MB, just upgrade your ram, it'll cost 200 bucks for 2 gigs of ram from Crucial. are they both core 2 duo or just core duos? well, if you need more HD, you could always upgrade, but for most improvement, get ram. I wouldn't want pro so much cause i don't need the extra graphx that it provides.

Sounds like you both have Core Duo's (not Core 2 Duo), so the trade sounds like it would be to your advantage.

You have:
-Faster processor (barely, just a selling point)
-Smaller form factor
-Probably better battery life
-$150

He has:
-A dedicated video card
-Bigger screen
-Backlit keyboard
-Bigger Hard Drive

Sounds close, but I'd say it's good deal to make unless you know of any problems with the machine.

Not necessarily. Some had specific problems with a whine but this problem only affected about 15 percent of the early production model. Subsequent firmware upgrades helped with that problem and increased fans' idle speed to improve cooling. But most of the production were just fine. I have an early production 2.16 GHz model that's been perfect right out of the box, and it's still running perfectly.
