iCloud password for preferences

I tried to do two-factor setup and it asked for my iCloud password for iCloud Preferences. It would not accept my appleID password. I searched for help and it said to sign out of iCloud and then sign in again. I did that. When I signed in, my ID and iCloud password (appleID password) went fine, then it asked for my iCloud Preferences password. Same thing... it would not accept it. What is going on? Thanks!

You are not intruding - you just solved it. I enter my computer passcode and things progress. I thought he was referring to my appleID password. My fault all along.

Thank you.

Hello,

I hope I am not intruding, and if you still have the issue, I think you may have missed something that tygb had written in the first response to your question.

Since your full name appears in the dialogue box that is popping up, in regards to "iCloud preferences wants to make changes... ," it is asking for your password that you use to sign into your computer.

"In your question iCloud preferences password is admin password..." -tygb

Perhaps this will solve your inquiry, if you still have the issue.

All thanks to tygb, just clarifying a bit, just in case.

Thank you, but this does not help. I am unable to get past entering a password for iCloud Preferences request. I sign in to iCloud using my AppleID and password. Then a dialog appears asking for my password for iCloud Preferences. My Apple ID password does not work. I see no place where I can reset a "iCloud Preferences" password.

Thanks.

It shows up after I try to log into iCloud. When I cancel, my phone and iPad get messages from Apple that say someone is trying to log into my account and gives me a numeric code to enter. There is no place to enter the code, and it doesn't work in the above field. (My full name appears in the user name field in the above dialog.)

Thanks.

I do not have any screen that looks like that. The verification code arrives on my iPad, not my MacBook. The only thing I see is the screenshot I loaded above. As I said, I type in my AppleID password, I get the dialog shown above and it will not accept my password, nor the verification code that shows up on my iPad. There is nowhere to enter anything on my iPad either. Just the message with the code and an OK button.

Thank you.
