iTunes won't recognize iPhone XR on Macbook Pro mid-2010
I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.11.6 with iTunes 12.8. I had purchased my iPhone XR and in preparation I was able to plug my existing iPhone 7+ into my Mac and back it up via the cord.
When I plugged my XR into my Mac, it will open up Photos but it will not be recognized in iTunes. I have tried what many others have recommended at this link: If your iOS 12 device isn't recognized by iTunes, you might need to upgrade macOS or iTunes - Apple Support
with no success. I even called AppleCare and spoke to them for an hour and a half and the best that they could do was tell me that they were getting an error message regarding security software conflicts. The only problem with that is that I don't have any security software running. At one time I had SafeEyes which is a filtering software, but I uninstalled that long ago. I even checked to see if there was anything still on there, but there wasn't.
I even tried to upgrade my OS to High Sierra on a backup internal drive to see if that would work and it didn't, in fact it made that drive run absurdly slow. WIth that being the case, I won't upgrade my main drive to that.
So, what can I do? I want to keep my new XR, but it's ridiculous that I can get it to be recognized in iTunes and there seems to be no solution as others are having the same problem. Oh yes, I have also just upgraded my iOS to 12.1 with no success.
